1940's Wittnauer Watch

A 1940s Wittnauer manual-wind dress watch with a square gold-filled case and classic Art Deco proportions. Wittnauer was founded in New York by Swiss-born Albert Wittnauer and maintained a remarkably close relationship with Longines, serving as an important American partner and distributor before the two companies formally joined together in 1950. That connection has made vintage Wittnauer something of a best-kept secret in watch collecting—offering much of the Swiss watchmaking pedigree and period design associated with Longines, often without the same name recognition or price. This example is currently running and keeping time, but has not been fully serviced; as with any vintage mechanical watch, future servicing may be recommended for continued accuracy and longevity.
